Approximately 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Officers say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Police then located numerous other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police report initial examinations show the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its source; officials are not yet cognizant of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they added.
City officials said they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A senior representative commented the incident made him without words and required to be addressed promptly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the death of nine victims by a assailant focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
